Depict Video Textual Analysis

Camera Use

Shot Distance

In my production we used many different shot distance for different affects. Our first shot was a tracking shot so the camera started far away and came in closer so we get to see more about the characters. This was a establishing shot which is setting the scene around the characters.

The next shot was a long shot again which shows one of the character get up off the bench and walk off camera. I  used this shot because I thought that it shows some scenery as well as showing that one of the character is walking somewhere.

In this shot I decided to use a medium shot of the two character because I wanted to show some expression on the characters face as well as how they are acting because in my group production we wanted one of the characters to be a little bit clumsy, which leads onto him not having no luck.

Camera Angle

In the second shot of our production we decided not to use a straight on view of the character as it is a quite slow paced shot, so we decided that the camera angle will be parallel with the bench and the character is walking diagonally so it looks like he is walking at a fast pace.

Further into the production we decided to use a low angle shot as the character is looking down and as it is a close-up as well as a low angle shot it shows alot of expressions. Which informs the audience that either the character is not happy with something or that he is looking down on someone.

Camera Movement

In our production we have two different types of camera movement the first is tracking, which occurs at the beginning of the short film and in the middle of the short. This was a key part of our production I believe as it shows the audience how the character is feeling with a close-up. The next camera movement after this is a panning shot which follows the character walking around a corner, we used this because it shows the speed at which the characters are moving at.

Composition

For our production we used spilt screen so in this case we had to make sure that we had enough room for both on the characters on the film. So none of the character got cut out. Mainly we had to be aware of this when filming but if we only just cut out a little part of the character we could edit it after we had filmed our production. As shown in the shot here we had to give enough room for the character on the left when filming for the character on the right.

Editing

Cuts/Fades/Dissolves

For our production we mainly used cut from scene to scene but we did use wipe. This was useful when the split screen was in place as we could split from split scene to a normal shot.

Continuity System

The first shot we used on our production was a establishing shot, we used this with our character already in the scene so we didn't have to have two different shot as we only had a 90 second deadline.
We used two match cuts on action in our production. This looked really good when edited  together and we wanted to use this because instead of just filming the character picking up the £10 note without getting a close up is a bit boring. I believe that only one part of the production has broken the 180 degree rule as the male character is always on the right side but then at the end of the production the male is on the left side with the female on the right when it was the other way round at the start.

Sound

Diegetic (Synchronous and asynchronous)

In our production we didn't use any diegetic sound because we thought that our production will be better with non-diegetic sound.

Non-Diegetic

The non-diegetic sound we used was music put in after the filming so the character couldn't hear it. This was key to our production as it builds up the tension in the short film.

Ambient

In our production we didn't have any ambient sound as we just wanted some music played over the top of the film. We did have ambient noise but we decided to cut it out and use non-diegetic sound.

Mise-en-scene and Lighting

Props/Settings

Compared to other groups we didn't use many props as we only used a wallet, four leafed clover and a £10 note. We could have used some set clothes but we wanted our short film to look as realistic as possible as it was about everyday life with unlucky and lucky people.
The setting in our film was a park and a road this was approiate for our production as we wanted it to be realistic.

Ambient Lighting

In our production we only used ambient light, we didn't use any artifical light as said before we wanted it to be as real as possible.
